About me
The Lotus Dog was born from a heartfelt blend of passion and purpose. Inspired by the profound impact dogs have on individuals—especially children with disabilities—I was drawn to the transformative world of dog training. I discovered an opportunity to empower dogs to navigate our complex human world with patience and skill, while fostering deeper, more meaningful connections between families and their beloved canine companions.
With over eight years of experience studying canine behavior and training, I proudly graduated from the Animal Behavior College in 2023. Since 2019, I have also earned 12 certifications from the Grisha Stewart Academy, specializing in Behavior Adjustment Training (BAT). My dedication to learning never stops—I am constantly expanding my knowledge of dogs and the unique bond we share with them.
Thank you for allowing me to contribute to the growth of our community and enrich the relationship between humans and their dogs. I look forward to meeting you and your furry companion and helping you create a harmonious partnership.
Warm regards,
Courtney Nisbet
Our Approach
At The Lotus Dog, we take pride in our positive, reinforcement-based training approach that sets us apart. Our focus is on clear communication and fostering a balanced, nurturing environment where dogs can truly thrive. We are firm believers in the effectiveness of positive reinforcement as a tool to help dogs better understand what is being asked of them and to navigate their environment with ease. This method not only promotes learning but also builds trust, confidence, and reinforces desirable behaviors. Additionally, we emphasize the importance of healthy, structured socialization during a puppy’s early stages of life, as it lays the foundation for a confident and well-adjusted adult dog.
Making a Difference
The Lotus Dog has helped children build boundaries for not only the dog but the child. Sometimes we don't realize that our children are not behaving appropriately with our canines and this can result in some dangerous outcomes. With my background in dogs and children I am able to help build the bridge that brings both together so that both child and dog can have a stronger healthier relationship.
We've witnessed incredible transformations as families learn to understand and respect each other's boundaries. By fostering appropriate interactions, we create safer, healthier relationships where both children and dogs can thrive.
Our Goal
My mission is to help people better understand one another, fostering clarity and respect in navigating challenging situations. While not everyone is fluent in "dog language," many of us share our lives with dogs. My goal is to provide the guidance needed to build a more harmonious and supportive relationship between humans and their canine companions.
At The Lotus Dog, our mission is clear: to create understanding and harmony between dogs and their families in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. We aim to empower you with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to overcome challenges, fostering a happier and more balanced life with your canine companion. The name "The Lotus Dog" symbolizes transformation—rising above the darkest, most difficult moments to emerge into something beautiful and extraordinary. Our approach focuses on helping you connect with your dog in a calm, centered, and balanced way, while developing new skills and strengthening your bond. My lifelong passion for animals and children, along with personal experiences supporting loved ones with autism, inspired me to pursue a career in dog training. I’ve witnessed first hand the incredible, almost magical, way dogs can support children with disabilities. I’ve also worked with dogs facing significant challenges, helping them navigate this sometimes overwhelming world with patience, compassion, and skill. At The Lotus Dog, we believe in the power of connection, growth, and transformation—for both you and your dog.
